Sorry it’s been so long since the last post… so much has been happening this month.
We discovered a local pop-up curry house which had us watering at the mouth! Authentic? Curryhouse is hosted monthly at the Annexe in Partick where they serve up vegetarian, organic and fairtrade menus with all of the spice and authenticity that can be so lacking in many of the more permanent establishments. With three large communal tables you will not only enjoy great food at a great price, but meet new people to share the experience. Book on their website here.

We have also collaborated with Ruby Flowers to bring our gift bags our Hyndland fans. We are longstanding fans of this cult florist where beautiful flowers and creative detail go hand in hand so we felt it was a natural step for us to work together. Whether as a gift or wedding favour, we feel our teas are ideally suited to this wonderful shop.

Finally, we’d like to thank you all again for your support at this year’s Edinburgh Foodies Festival. The weather and the crowds were on our side and we areĀ now dealing with a bit of an empty shelf situation back in our storerooms. However, along with our stallholders tans, this is a problem we are happy to face! Look out for us at this Saturday’s Glasgow Farmer’s Market in Queen’s Park.

Mum and I had a fantastic weekend at the Hampton Court Foodies Festival, despite the wind and the rain on Saturday. It was inspiring to see the turn out for the various tastings, talks and treats. We had our stall in the Farmers Market which was buzzing with activity:

People are really starting to catch on that tea is a varied and seasonal product. And sales reflected an interest in the whole range, not just the familiar standards.
We also had a chance to meet some other small companies that are making a mark on the food scene. I was interested to see Rossmore Oysters where it was hard to resist the smell of the sea, the lemons and tabasco!

Then I spent some time getting familiar with Compass Box Whisky (!) whose fresh and contemporary approach to blending really distinguishes them in the market.

We got home tired but satisfied and excited about the next Foodies Festival, Edinburgh in August.

On my way to the Hampton Court Foodies Festival (watch this space), I made a stop off in Kent and enjoyed a couple of days of unfettered eating and drinking! With my mum in tow, I discovered Patisserie Valerie in Canterbury which has the most tempting window display ever. This group of shops specialises in pastries and cream cakes which do not disappoint and they totally made up for the bad weather!

For lunch on the same day we were taken to Jo Jo’s in Whitstable. This modernist cube on the edge of the sea was fresh and airy with good, simple food served in a casual tapas style by friendly smiling staff. I love the bright simple interior with mismatched vintage furniture and cutlery (my fork was from 1867!) and the Chorizo and Potato Stew was to die for.

A trip to Edinburgh is pointless without a half hour savouring one of Scotland’s best cups of coffee courtesy of Artisan Roast on Broughton Street. Not only do they roast their own beans on site, but their baristas consistently serve up the holy grail of coffee: a double shot latte that is neither too frothy, too milky or too hot - bliss! We can’t wait for you guys to open in Glasgow in the next couple of weeks!!

This week Big Man has discovered a new exciting venue in the West End of Glasgow. The lovely Michelle has finally opened her own shop to wow us with her amazing baking and attention to 1960s detail. If you haven’t experienced the joys of a Root Beer float, this is definitely the place to do it, and from this week, you may also purchase some of our tea!
Check it out upstairs in De Courcy’s Arcade above Bean Scene!
